Episode 1 - Tom Smith

Welcome to my show "The Dan Cloutier Community."

This is a local cable show and podcast that I'm making with my good friends at HCAM.  (Hopkinton Cable Television.). On this show get the privilege to interview amazing artists of all types as we dig into the idea that art builds community, and that art can help this hurting world.

 

We currently live in an age of distraction and isolation.  In recent years one in two American adults responded that they are lonely.  The surgeon general even stated that we are currently in an epidemic of loneliness.

As I look at the world, I think one of the most important responses to these isolating times is human creativity and connection.  Not only does art make the world a better place, but I believe that each of us is an artist with a distinct voice that needs to be heard.  That’s right, you are an artist.

 

The more of us making art, the better we all are.  And, that could be through song-writing, painting, poetry, sculpting, theater, film, photography, but also things like gardening, building, computer coding, cooking, sewing, and so much more.  Art is not just one thing.

There are plenty of wonderful shows out there that interview artists and talk shop, but I wanted to do something a little different.  I am deeply inspired by the works of Mr. Rogers, and he always said, “I like you just the way you are.”  My hope is for this show to inspire people to start making things, and to be proud of what they make.  I don’t have to be Bob Dylan to write a song, and you don’t need to be Rembrandt to paint.  You can like your art just the way it is.  

 

It also helps my mind that Mr. Roger’s had his name on his own show too, so, I guess The Dan Cloutier Community works. 

 

I also want to state that everyone is welcomed at this show, no matter who you are, what you believe, or what kind of art you like.  So, put down your phone, get off your couch, start being creative, and together, let’s build a community!
